Frederick Romberg
Selected Projects

Romberg's buildings are not strictly modernist or regional but are an individualized blend of influences making his work significant in both a local and global sense much like the architects he admired such as Alvar Aalto. Some reoccurring features within his buildings are, a dynamic blend of sculptural forms both modernist and heimatstil inspired features, large vertical. He often utilizes glazed areas usually where staircases are located, the use of curved balconies with a fluted pattern and the juxtaposition of a varied palate of materials such as natural stone, chequer-board patterned concrete, bricks steel and timber. which further reflect his interest in texture. His planning reflects a Corbusian influence as well as some recurring feature such as pilotis.
