TECH 1: Notes from Lecture

INTRODUCTION to Model Making – John Cherrey

Use good tools – TOLEDO steel rule, NT-cutter or OLFA blades

You need an engineers (steel) rule, a smaller good quality cutting knife and a large knife

PVA (Aqaudhere) glue good for balsa models, avoid superglue and glue guns.

Do not use more glue than needed, takes longer to dry and looks messy. Often only a little glue is needed.

Make Jigs to produce efficient production line models for repetitive items such as stud frames.

Consider a ‘stripper’ for cutting balsa

Balsa is like other timbers – has a grain and is stronger along the grain

Consider laminating balsa for making curved forms
